Example: Mapping telecommunications infrastructure in Openstreetmap
Back to overview
The freely accessible Openstreetmap project now offers highly detailed information for many regions. However, most maps derived from the database use only a small fraction of all data available. In principle, a variety of objects can be mapped. Since Openstreetmap is mainly maintained by volunteers, some object types are only mapped in few regions, and accuracy may vary. Phoenitium offers checking the data quality for a given object category in a region as well as the addition of new objects in the field. This example screenshot shows the result of an inventory of various types of telecommunications infrastructure (copper/coaxial/fibre) in an area where hardly any objects of that type were mapped before. The data are presented using QGIS.
